Be a Beekeeper for a Day
Join Anna Bee’s Honey for an educational and immersive hands-on experience as we learn all about honeybees and honey then don a beekeeping suit and dive into the hive at my apiary located on a beautiful 4-acre community garden in Grays Ferry in South Philadelphia. First we’ll spend time learning about honeybees – anatomy, development stages, different castes, the waggle dance and so much more – and we’ll learn what to expect when we look in the hive. We’ll even look into a microscope and see the bee’s knees! Then we’ll suit up and you can hold a frame of bees – heck, you can hold a bee! – and taste honey straight from the hive. With any luck, you just might spot the queen. The session usually lasts 1.5-2 hours but I’m never in a rush and I can talk about bees all day. The experience is best for ages 5 and up. I’ve hosted 5-year-olds with their moms, and girl scouts, as well as groups of adults and corporate teams. Solo or large groups are welcome – I cap the group size at 12 but if you are bringing a large group of more than 12, I can accommodate a special visit. Anna Bee’s Honey LLC is fully insured and licensed by the Pa. Dept. of Ag. If you have any specific questions, contact me.
