This Lunar New Year, we welcome the Year of the Dragon. As the only mythological creature in the Chinese zodiac, dragons symbolize strength, power, wisdom, good fortune, and success

11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. | Zhejiang Province Artist Takeover | Great Stair Hall
Special artisans from Zhejiang province, China, share some of their vibrant crafts. Enjoy engaging demonstrations of:

Tea-Whisking: Learn about Chinese tea culture.
Sugar Painting: This traditional folk handicraft uses hot, liquid sugar to create two-dimensional objects.
Spring Couplet Writing: A Zhejiang calligraphy artist helps you write your own couplet.
Taishun Puppets: See examples of this ancient traditional drama art.
Additional displays include: Taizhou Embroidery, Longquan Celadon (a traditional ceramic technique), and Rice Sculpture Art (rice dough food modeling).

Chinese New Year Woodblock Printing is a traditional folk art form with over 1,000 years of history. Check out the Zhejiang artist’s techniques and add colorful details to your own print.

Learn about the origins of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac with a playful gallery activation.
