The Perfect Family-Friendly Holiday Getaway to Atlantic City

If you’re looking for a festive, magical holiday escape that feels easy, cozy, and full of memory-making moments, Atlantic City should absolutely be on your radar. Just about an hour from Philadelphia, Atlantic City transforms into a holiday playground for families, offering a mix of immersive Christmas experiences, incredible food, charming nearby towns, and fun activities for both kids and parents. This itinerary is the perfect way to enjoy a slow, joyful weekend away without the stress of long travel or heavy planning.

Stay at Ocean Casino Resort – A Holiday Dream for Kids and Parents

We stayed at Ocean Casino Resort, and honestly, it’s one of the most festive hotels we’ve ever been to. From the moment you walk in, there are holiday decorations everywhere, giant trees, cozy garland, twinkling lights, and photo spots all throughout the hotel. It immediately puts you in the holiday spirit.

One of the best parts of staying here is Santa’s Hideaway. Kids get onto a “magical elevator” that takes them straight to the North Pole — and when the doors open, they walk into Santa’s private hideaway. It’s quiet, sweet, personal, and you get professional photos with Santa, which is a huge bonus. No crowds, no rushed line – just a calm, special moment.

Ocean also has an entire holiday-themed floor filled with decorated rooms, Christmas trees, hot chocolate stations in every room, and more cute corners to explore. It’s one of those places where you can just walk around and take everything in. It feels like a holiday attraction all on its own, which makes it perfect for families.

Visit Renault Winery’s Vintner Wonderland

About 20 minutes from Atlantic City is Renault Winery & Resort, and during the holidays it becomes Vintner Wonderland, which was one of our favorite family-friendly stops of the entire trip.

Parents can enjoy some wine while the kids run around and experience all the activities. There are fire pits for making s’mores, Santa visits, and even a whole kids’ play area stocked with toys, blocks, and a dollhouse. It’s such a nice break for little ones who need some indoor play time.

There’s so much to do outdoors, too: ice skating, tractor rides, gingerbread decorating, and even heated igloos you can rent. Holiday music plays throughout the whole area, making it feel super festive and cozy. It’s a really fun place to spend a few hours and let the kids enjoy everything at their own pace.

Take a Holiday Stroll Through Historic Smithville Village

Another spot worth visiting is Historic Smithville Village, which looks straight out of a storybook during the holiday season. The whole village is decorated with lights, wreaths, and festive touches. Every little shop feels charming and warm.

The kids loved the train ride and the carousel, which both run on weekends. We also popped into the candy shop, and the Christmas store were both huge hits. It’s the kind of place where you just wander around, eat something sweet, shop a little, and enjoy the holiday vibes.

Before you leave, definitely grab a meal at Smithville Inn. It’s super cozy with fireplaces and beautiful garland everywhere. They have a great kids’ menu and my favorite was the French Onion Soup. It felt like the perfect winter meal.

Another fun family-friendly holiday activity in Atlantic City is the free holiday musical light show at Tropicana. They have a huge Christmas tree, lights that dance along to festive music, and a fun atmosphere that kids love. It’s a simple, quick stop but really adds to the holiday magic of the trip.

A bonus activity nearby is the IMAX theatre, where you can catch a holiday movie on the giant screen. We watched Polar Express in our holiday pajamas and it was such a special memory.

Where to Eat: Family Favorites in Atlantic City

We had so much good food on this trip, but two spots really stood out for families.

First, Hash House A Go Go has some of the best food, huge portions, amazing chicken and waffles, and great cocktails for parents. It’s very family-friendly and everything we tried was delicious.

We also loved Electric Donuts Play Café. The coffee was incredible, the donuts were so good, and they have a full play area for kids. Lily ran around and played with other kids while we enjoyed our coffee. It’s the perfect stop in the morning, or before heading out; it’s located right in Northfield, just 20 minutes from Atlantic City.

Atlantic City is honestly such a family-friendly holiday destination, and I think so many people don’t realize how much there is to do with kids. From staying at Ocean Casino Resort with its magical holiday decor and Santa’s Hideaway, to skating and s’mores at Vintner Wonderland, to the cozy charm of Historic Smithville Village and all the fun food stops, this trip was packed with memories.
